Ugandan
primary school teachers hold banners and shout slogans during a
demonstration in a protest against the government’s failure to increase
their salaries in an earlier strike. Rubandana had repeatedly threatened
to commit suicide if government fails to increase the teachers’ pay.
Information obtained by our reporter shows that, before committing suicide Rubandana went to Nyakabungo trading center to shave his hair. On his return, Rubandana reportedly asked his wife to go and buy maize seeds for cultivation.
But on her return from the market, she found the deceased’s body hanging from the roof top of one of the bedrooms in their main house. Johnson Baguma, the Buhara sub county LC V councilor says Rubandana had repeatedly threatened to commit suicide if government fails to increase the teachers’ pay.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi regional Police spokesperson has described the incident as unfortunate saying they have launched investigations to establish the motive of the suicide.
