Interpol Issues Arrest Warrant For ‘White Widow

Interpol has issued a red notice arrest warrant for the woman believed to be behind the attack at the West Gate mall in Nairobi, Kenya over the weekend.

Gun men attacked the upscale shopping mall on Saturday killing at least 62 people and injuring 175 others during indiscriminate shooting. The attackers believed to be members of the al Shabaab militant group, occupied the building for at least three days before they were dislodged by the Kenyan Defence Forces on Tuesday. In the shoot-out, at least five government soldiers were killed together with six of the attackers.
Samantha Lewthwaite, a British national, is believed to be the master-mind of the siege on Westgate Mall by Al-Shabab militants who claimed responsibility on their now blocked twitter page.
Lewthwaite is now a wanted person in 190 countries on charges of being in possession of explosives and conspiracy to commit a felony dating back to December 2011.
The arrest warrant requested for by Kenya contains the identification details of the 29 year old widow and mother of two, and the judicial information about the charges placed against her. She is the widow to Germaine Lindsay, one of the four bombers involved in the July 7th 2005 terror attacks on London.
Lewthwaite is said to use the name Natalie Webb as an alias and holds a South African passport.
In a press release on the Interpol website, the Secretary General of international police body, Ronald K. Noble, says the arrest warrant is a tripwire for the fugitive terrorist commonly known as White Widow and that the whole world now has the chance to contribute towards her arrest.
Lewthwaite was previously a wanted person in Britain for fraudulently possessing a South African passport but had never been arrested until a fresh red notice arrest warrant was issued on Thursday.
An Interpol arrest warrant grants any country the legal mandate to arrest and detain a person as they process their extradition papers.
Kenya is currently observing a three day national mourning for the Westgate mall victims and calm has tentatively returned after four days of protracted gunfire exchange between security forces and the terrorists.
