KAMPALA
The police director in-charge of operations, Mr
Grace Turyagumanawe, has been accused of grabbing property belonging to a
city businessman.
Mr Fred Kirenga, who spoke to this newspaper
recently, alleges that the officer grabbed his property on Plot 5 in
Kyadondo-Mengo near Perryman Gardens, Old Kampala. Mr Kirenga also
claims that he bought the property from William Muhumuza but it was
being rented by The Refugee Law Project under Chris Dolan and Walter
Aliker.
When contacted recently, Mr Turyagumanawe denied
grabbing the property, saying he even does not know where the property
is located. “It is good you have called me. The house in question does
not belong to me. It belongs to a Chinese woman called Yee. She bought
it from an Indian who is now living in Canada,” the operations boss
said.
Forgery?
Mr Turyagumanwe added: “I think there are people trying to forge documents of ownership of that property. When I heard about the dispute, I called the Kampala Metropolitan Police boss Andrew Kaweesi and the police were deployed there. The woman [Yee] needed protection.”

Mr Kirenga reportedly wrote a letter to the
tenants recently, asking them to vacate the property and they complied.
However, after the tenants had left, more than six police officers were
deployed at the premises.
Mr Kirenga said the police should not guard the house because the matter is in court.
