Police in Luweero have arrested 10 men suspected to be members of a notorious gang that calls its B-13.
B-13 reportedly stands for Bad Boys 13. The 13 is supposed to be the number of members in the gang.
The gang is said to have been terrorizing much of the town council with burglaries and blackmail.
Godfrey Ninsiima the Luweero District Police Commander identifies the three ring leaders as Julius Kalumba, Karim Doka and Yusuf Semuyaba, all residents of Luweero town council.
The suspects were picked up from Binyonyi and Galuweero zones. Police sources say that the men were found moving around at night. Police was on foot patrol at the time around midnight.
Police found the men with electronics such as DVD players which they could not account for.When police insisted the men lead them to their homes, police found more brand new television sets, mattresses, radio sets among others. The men could not provide receipts to prove ownership and this is when police decided to confiscate the property as exhibits and arrest the gang.
DPC Ninsiima says police is gathering intelligence from residents who have volunteered information about the gang’s activities.
He says the suspects will be charged with theft and burglary, after completion of investigations.
Break-ins in Luweero have been on the rise since the beginning of the year. In February
The killing of a 28-year-old boda boda rider Yusuf Mutyaba on 6th August being one of the latest actions of insecurity. His motorcycle was stolen during the robbery that claimed his life.
